We've had some special visitors this past year, despite - or maybe because of - the pandemic. From interesting wildlife, including an abundance of orioles and raccoons (not so great for the chickens), three Sandhill Cranes, a mountain lion, and this New Year's Day hawk right outside the kitchen window, to friends and family who came for a visit or supplies or a getaway, it's been a year rich in company here on the farm, and we are grateful. My wonderful and creative sisters and parents dove right into to an alternative visit paradigm, pitching tents in the pasture and adapting to eating outside among the curious chickens and nosy honking geese. Friends came for compost and soap and eggs and meat, or just to wander the pastures. It's a huge gift to live on a piece of land with space and fresh air and interesting animals, and we've felt happy to be able to share our good fortune with others and have been incredibly lucky to get to see people we love during these crazy times. Here's to taking the good bits from 2020 and charging into 2021.
